There are two segments where you must observe used disk space on server(s) where EBA DMS system is installed: database and log files.
1. Managing database size
As EBA DMS stores all documents, document attachments, script project, exchange plugins and settings in database it can eventually grow and become hard to maintain.
We suggest following steps in order to keep database size optimised:
- Regularly update EBA DMS software and scripts – as newer versions can contain several optimisations on documents stored into database and other improvements
- Perform regular maintenance task on database on SQL server: clean, vacuum, index etc.
- Consider splitting main database into more databases – see article Archive databases.
2. Manage log files size
Each EBA Applicaton Service writes all processed task into log file. Keeping several log files with debug level set can take up excessive amount of disk space. By shorting how long log files are kept and changing log level can lead to reduced size taken on filesystem.
Another situation which can cause excessive log files are unnecessarily started services – such as Exchange service if we do not exchange documents via AS2 protocol. Note which services must be started and keep others shut down or even put them on disabled.
Logs are saved into ebatraffic folder. Default path is C:\ebatraffic. Explore files in location to reveal any excessive log files.
However at least 10GB free file space is recommended to be available for ebatraffic folder to write log files and other data.
Following suggestions on keeping log files on minimum size:
- Clean old an unnecessary log files in ebatraffic folder. Suggested days to keep log files are 3.
- Set “keep log files” to minimum. If problem occurs you can easily create new log file as new log file is created each time EBA service is started.
- Set log level to release. Log level setting is stored in ebaautomation.ini file. Change log level and restart application services. If issue occurs you must return log level to release and recreate the issue.
- Make sure that unnecessary application services are not started.
